A presidential choice: One week until Super Tuesday
Iowa, New Hampshire, Wyoming, Nevada, Michigan and now South Carolina have all had a say in one or both of the national political party presidential candidate selection events.
Florida is about to go.
Next Tuesday, Feb. 5, Alaska and nearly two dozen other states will take their turn.
The race, on both the Republican and Democratic sides, is shaping up as a race for delegates for the first time in several elections. It’s unclear today just which of the front-runners will secure the nomination — or when.
That’s why Super Tuesday, of which the Alaska Democratic and Republican parties are both participating for the first time, is so important. It’s entirely possible that every delegate to each party’s national convention will be a coveted delegate. Alaska delegates to the conventions are awarded to each candidate based on their showing in the Feb. 5 Democratic caucus and Republican primary.
It’s an exciting time for Alaska political junkies and for those who care about this state and this nation.
